How does Florida EOT work?
Determine whether you qualify, obtain your CJSTC Form 76, complete approved EOT proficiency training, and pass the Florida State Officer Certification Examination.
First, determine whether you qualify.
Florida EOT is available to certain experienced out of state officers, federal officers, qualifying military applicants, and eligible previously certified Florida officers.
Prior training, full time sworn service, certification history, and the length of any break in service are considered during the eligibility review.
If you qualify, obtain your CJSTC Form 76.
Your eligibility must be reviewed through an approved Florida employing agency, Commission certified training center, or criminal justice selection center.

GovSource applicants receive a GS76 case number that remains associated with their Form 76 case.
Complete an approved Florida EOT course.
After your Form 76 is issued, locate an available EOT proficiency course at a Commission certified criminal justice training center.
Many GovSource coordinated law enforcement EOT courses are approximately 4½ days. Some training centers use longer schedules.
Pass the Florida SOCE.
The State Officer Certification Examination can be the most significant academic hurdle in the EOT process. The examination tests Florida curriculum, not simply general law enforcement experience.
Prepare before you use an attempt.
FDLE reported 258 law enforcement EOT examinees during January through March 2026. Of those examinees, 174 passed, for an overall quarterly pass rate of 67%.
EOT candidates have up to three total certification examination attempts. After three unsuccessful attempts, the candidate must successfully complete a new Commission approved basic recruit training program before becoming eligible to test again.

Do I need Form 76 before attending an EOT course?
Yes. Your EOT eligibility must be approved and your CJSTC Form 76 issued before you attend the applicable proficiency training.
How long do I have to complete EOT and pass the SOCE?
EOT candidates generally have one year from the applicable EOT approval notification to complete the required proficiency demonstration and pass the SOCE.

What high liability areas are included?
Law enforcement EOT proficiency training includes firearms, law enforcement vehicle operations, defensive tactics, and first aid requirements.
Do I need to bring a firearm or ammunition?
Usually not for GovSource coordinated courses. The host training center typically provides the firearm and ammunition required for training. Always follow the equipment instructions issued for your specific course.
What should I wear to EOT?
Wear appropriate training clothing suitable for firearms, driving, defensive tactics, and first aid. Do not wear red clothing to a GovSource coordinated course unless the specific course instructions state otherwise.
Is the SOCE difficult for EOT candidates?
